Rules related to passing signals
at Danger
Automatic
Stop Signal (Rules 9.02 & 9.07)
Ø When an Automatic
stop signal is at danger the LP shall bring the train to a stop at the foot of
the signal.
Ø He shall wait for
one minute by day and two minutes by night.
Ø If the signal
continues to remain at danger he shall give one long whistle, exchange signals
with the guard and then pass the signal at a restricted speed of 15kmph when
view ahead is clear and 10 kmph when view ahead is not clear.
Ø When
view ahead is obstructed due to curve, fog, rain, dust storm etc ALP or Guard
shall pilot the train on foot.
Ø Guard shall ensure
that the LP does not exceed the speed limit prescribed.
Ø When the LP exceeds the
speed limit Guard shall attract the attention of the LP by reversing the side
lamp during night to show red towards the front. In addition he shall apply the
hand brake sharply and release it quickly. After attracting the attention of
the LP necessary hand signals may be displayed to stop the train (Rule 4.45).
Ø If the LP comes
across any preceding train in the section he shall maintain a safer distance of
150 metres or 2 OHE span in case of a train hauled by Diesel/AC Locomotive
following. In case of EMU train
following the distance may be reduced to 75 metres or one OHE span. During
adverse weather conditions like floods the following train may be pulled closer
to the preceding train.
Ø When a LP comes
across an automatic stop signal which is Flickering/Bobbing he shall stop the
train to ascertain whether any particular aspect remains steady for 60 seconds.
He shall obey the steady aspect so displayed. If no aspect remains steady treat
the signal as displaying its most restrictive aspect and act accordingly.

Semi
Automatic Stop Signal
If a Semi-Automatic stop signal is at “ON”
with “A” Marker light lit LP shall follow the rules for passing Automatic stop
signal at Danger (Rule 9.02 or 9.07). If “A” Marker light is extinguished LP
shall not pass the signal at “ON” without the prescribed authority (T/369(3b) S.R.
9.14(i).
Manual Stop signal
LP
shall not pass the signal at “ON” without the prescribed authority (T/369(3b))
{Rule S.R. 9.14(i)}.
Semi Automatic Gate Stop Signal
(Rule 9.15).
Ø
When
a Semiautomatic Gate Stop Signal is at “ON” with “A” Marker light lit LP can
pass the signal at “ON” by following the rules for passing an automatic signal
at danger (Rule 9.02 or 9.07).
Ø But
when the signal is at “ON” with “A” Marker light extinguished LP shall pass the
signal at “ON” cautiously and bring the train to a stop 30 metres in rear of
the gate. He shall move the train further only after ensuring that the Gates
are closed against road traffic by the ALP or Guard. Run through trains shall
be stopped at the next station and the matter reported to the SM. (Rule 3.73.)
