Kinds
of Signals available in Automatic
Territory (Rule 3.12)
Multiple aspect colour light signals are
provided in Automatic area
The signals are of four kinds : -
1. Automatic
Stop Signal.
2. Semi-Automatic
Stop Signal.
3. Manual Stop
Signal.
4. Semi-Automatic
Gate Stop Signal.
5.
Modified Semi-Automatic Stop signal
Automatic
Stop Signal-
1.
It
is not dependent upon manual operation.
2.
It
assumes “ON” and “OFF” aspect automatically by the passage of the train.
3.
It
is normally provided between two block stations.
4.
It
is identified by ‘A’ Marker plate.
5.
Normal
aspect of the signal is `Proceed’ but if the next signal is a manual one normal
aspect displaced may be Caution or Attention.(Rule 3.37)
6.
LP
can pass the signal at “ON” without any authority.
Semi-Automatic Stop Signal-
1.
It
is capable of being operated either as an automatic stop signal or as a manual
stop signal as required
2.
It
is normally provided at wayside stations where crossing/precedence takes place.
3.
It
is distinguished by “A” marker light.
4.
When
it works as an automatic stop signal, it assumes “ON” and “OFF” aspect
automatically based on the condition of the automatic signalling section ahead.
5.
But
when it works as a manual stop signal it assumes “ON” aspect automatically by
the passage of the train and assumes “OFF” aspect when operated manually.
6.
When
a Semi-Automatic stop signal works as an automatic stop signal, the “A” marker
is illuminated, but when it works as a manual stop signal, “A” marker light is
extinguished.
7.
When
it functions as Automatic LP can pass the signal at “ON” without any authority
but when it works as manual LP shall not pass the signal at “ON” without the
prescribed authority (T/369(3b)).
Manual
Stop Signal-
1. It is a Signal which
is operated manually and cannot work as an Automatic or Semi automatic stop
signal.
2. It is not
distinguished by any Marker.
3. Normal aspect of the
signal is danger.
4. LP shall not pass
the signal at “ON” without the prescribed authority (T/369(3b)).
Semi
Automatic Gate Stop Signal
Ø
It
is provided at LC gate in Automatic area.
Ø
It
is identified by “A” Marker light and “G” Marker plate.
Ø
For
the signal to assume “OFF” aspect the automatic signalling section ahead must
be clear and gate must be closed against road traffic.
Ø
When
the signal becomes defective LP can pass the signal at “ON” if “A” Marker light
is lit. But if “A” Marker light is extinguished
he shall pass the signal at “ON” by following the procedure for passing
a gate stop signal with “G” Marker at “ON” ( Rule 3.73).
Modified Semi-Automatic Stop
signal
Ø
One
of the Automatic stop signals between two block stations may be converted as
Modified Semi-Automatic Stop signal and connected to station in advance and
under the control of SM.
Ø
When
A marker is lit it works as Automatic and when extinguished it works as manual.
Ø
When
LP comes across this signal at danger with A marker light lit he shall follow
the rules for passing Automatic signals at On.
Ø
If
A marker is unlit he shall contact the SM of the station in advance and act per
his instructions.
Ø
If
he is unable to contact SM he shall wait at the signal for 5 minutes and
thereafter pass the signal at ON and run at speed not exceeding 10 kmph till he
reaches the foot of the next signal and act as per the aspect of the signal and
report about the failure.
