The duties are mainly under three
heads Protection, Reporting and Assistance.
Ø Switch on the
flasher light immediately give four short whistles and inform Guard on
walkie-talkie.
Ø Note the date/time
and exact site of the accident.
Ø Sound short whistles
frequently to warn the LP of an approaching train.
Ø Arrange to protect
the train in the front in case of S/L and adjacent line and then the same line
in case of D/L in accordance with Rule No 6.03.
Ø As far as possible
protection and reporting shall be done simultaneously.
Ø Arrange to advise
control and adjacent stations most expeditiously about the accident by using
portable telephone, Magneto-phone of the nearest LC gate lodge or sending
messenger or stopping the train coming on the adjacent line and sending
information through GDR or send ALP/Any Competent person.
Ø Take such technical
precautions as may be necessary to make the Train/Loco safe.
Ø Note the condition
of track, Rolling stock, P.Way and prima facie cause.
Ø Provide assistance to
the passengers by saving lives and alleviate sufferings.
Ø Secure luggage and
property of passengers including Mails.
Ø Call for Doctors and
volunteers on the train and provide first aid to the injured.
Ø Provide utmost care,
consideration and courtesy towards passengers involved in the accident.
Ø Create a sense of
security and confidence in the affected passengers.
Ø Preserve all clues
and evidences of the cause of the accident.
Ø In addition to message
given through telephone the GDR shall convey the report of accident in Form
Acc. 3.
Ø The report shall be
precise and clear.
Ø Provide correct
information from the site of the accident and nature of assistance required.
Ø Provide drinking
water, tea, snacks from the pantry car to the passengers.
Ø GDR shall not brief
the cause of accident to Press and Media.
Ø LP and ALP shall not
desert the accident spot until properly relieved.
