Initial
Preparation - Common for all Mcp Locos
- Secure
the loco --- Provide iron skids /
wedges tightly under wheels and apply Hand Brake
- Drain
out moisture from MR1, MR2 & Control Air Reservoir
- Ensure
all Angle cocks and Drain cocks are closed
- Check
Repair Book for remarks, Shutdown timings and Reasons
- Do
not crank if more than 36 hrs. Contact PRC / Shed.
- Ensure
Safety fittings, Safety items & Spare items
- Ensure
Safety Devices (LLOB, OSTA in et position in all locos in MU)
- Ensure
sufficient water and oil levels.
- Keep
MU2B valve in LEAD
- Keep
BP charging COC in Open in Single/Lead Loco
- Select
working C/stand – Keep A9 & SA9 COC in open position other C/stand in
close position
- Keep
MUSD in RUN in both control stand
- If MU
Loco – Keep in RUN in all locos
- Ensure
all switches & breakers in OFF
- Keep
ECS in IDLE (Start position in GE Mcp Loco)

Parameters will be displayed in DID
- If
any Fault message is displayed – Troubleshoot
- Press
Alarm bell button 3 times to alert staff
- Press
& hold Start button
- Pre
lube takes place for 60 seconds (if PLPM is provided)
- After
60 secs, Mcp will energize CKC
- Through
CKC; CK1, CK2 & CK3 will get energized
- Cranking,
firing and holding of engine will takes place
- Release
Start button once CK tip weld indication & alarm bell rings or Engine
RPM reaches above 200
Cranking
Procedure of GE Mcp Loco
Close BS
Keep ECS in START.
Close COB, CCB, FPB1, FPB2 & LCCB
Close AFCB, CEB, FNB, ERS & GFB,
Close EBB1, EBB2, ECB, ECCB & BCCB & Lighting Breakers (if
required)
Note: Follow
instructions stenciled in the loco regarding BCCB before cranking
In DID panel “Display Ready” appears
After 60 – 70 seconds, DID shows “Engine not running?”
If any Fault message is displayed – Trouble shoot
Press Alarm bell button 3 times to alert staff
Turn EST to Fuel Pump / Prime side
FPR / FPC picks up
FPM starts working
Ensure Fuel oil pressure builds up
Turn ‘EST’ To ‘START’
CKC1, CKC2 Picks Up Through MCP
& CKC3 Picks up Directly
Through CKC1 GS+, through CKC2 GS–
Picks up and CKC3 Connects Control GR in the circuit
GS+ Connects AG & GS– Connects
EG across Battery
After Firing & LOP Building up
Release ‘EST’
Display shows Idle Parameters
Cranking
Procedure of Siemens Mcp Loco
Close BS
Keep ECS in Idle
Close the following Circuit Breakers:
MB1, MB2, MFPB 1 & 2,
FPB,
CEB, DEB, PLPB and
“Function” Breakers
F1, F3, F4, F5, F6, F7
& F8 or (F1 to F4)
Micro processor and display will start
DID will be blank for 60 sec.
After 60 sec. Engine Parameter is displayed.
If any Fault Message is displayed, troubleshoot
Press Alarm bell button 3 times to alert staff
Push and hold Start button to START till Engine cranks and holds
Release start button after LOP building up
Loco
Examination after cranking
Ensure the
following:
- Switch
ON the AGFB
- BDIL
/ AG Fail indication lamp extinguished and BCA indicating charging side
- No
water, oil & exhaust gas leakage in compartments
- Brass
Spindle projecting out, Breather intact and RTTM blower is working
- Engine
Lube Oil level by keeping CCEB in OFF / as per stenciled instruction
- After
switching On CCEB, ensure CCEM is working
- No
abnormal sound from compartments
- Water
level, no oil contamination & whirling action in expansion tank
(Ensure no OHE)
- Adequate
MR (cut in/ cut out), BP, FP, BC, Control Air Reservoir pressure
- Conduct
Ten tests
- In
Microprocessor locos, no fault message is displayed
- Ensure
Headlight and Marker lights are working
- Check
Horns and Wipers working
- Check
VCD working and record the counter
- Before
moving loco - ensure skids removed and hand brake released
Starting Ground – Medha
Mcp (Sensed by BANGI)
BANGI Value more than 0.4 Amps, Cranking is restricted
(In 1 hour – 3 times Auto reset is allowed)
Check Cranking Circuit equipments
Resume Cranking after 15 sec. (Automatic Fault Reset)
If not successful Open GRCO2 & re-crank
Note: If GR2
Locked out message is displayed – Clear through DID in Clear active fault
screen
Starting Ground GE
Mcp (detected by CGR)
CGR trips and opens CKC1, CKC2 & Cranking stops.
Check Cranking Circuit equipments
Reset CGR by CGR Reset Button
If not resetting, manually release relay’s mechanical locking
If CGR trips again, Reset CGR, Open GRCO2 and Crank
Starting Ground Siemens
Mcp (detected by GR2)
GR2 trips and cranking stops.
Check Cranking Circuit equipments
Reset GR2
If GR2 trips again, Reset GR2
If again trips, open GRCO2 and Crank
Note: If GRCO2 is opened, make a remark in Repair book
