LSS-cum-distant

Ø  It is combined with L.S.S. and its Normal aspect is Danger.
Ø  ‘P’ marker shall not be provided.
Ø  As long as line clear is not obtained through the Block Instrument, it works as L.S.S.
Ø  After L.C. is obtained through the Block Instrument, it works as Distant Signal for a GSS or FSS also.
Ø  It shall not be taken ‘OFF’ until Line clear has been obtained from the block station in advance.

Engine re cranking Procedure if shutdown on Run


  • Ensure safety precaution of train working
  • Keep RH in Neutral
  • Keep Isolation Switch in Isolate
  • Check and ensure
  •           Required breakers in ON condition
  •           Cont & FP Slider Switch in ON & MUSD in Run
  •           EFCO not pressed 
  • Press crew menu and check for active crew messages
  • Turn EST to Prime and after 30 seconds turn to Start
  • If engine is cranked, continue train working duly ensuring RH & Isolation switch in required position

If engine is not cranked,
LP’s Duty:
  • Stop cranking & Stop train.
  • Keep A9 in Emergency along with SA9 in Full application
  • Keep RH in Neutral. Isolation Switch in Isolate
  • LP shall check Crew Messages in DID - before cranking
  • LP shall check crew message in DID during cranking (when EST is in Prime / Start)


ALP’s Duty
  • Go to Accessories room
  • Check lay shaft free movement – if tight, contact shed
  • Check & Reset LLOB, OSTA & LWPD if tripped
  • If CCPD Button is tripped – Do not reset & do not allow cranking
  • Duly check lube oil, Water level, Fuel Return Sight glass filled with oil without any air bubbles or water content (water content is indicated by white colour)
  • Ensure free movement of Lay shaft

During Cranking
  • ALP shall Press the Lay shaft by 1 cm.
  • Hold Lay shaft until RPM reaches 270 – 300
  • Release Lay shaft slightly and observe engine RPM holding or dropping
  • If RPM dropping, continue pressing Lay shaft for some more time
  • In such condition, do not allow engine to shut down. If LLOB or LWPD Button trips – Reset it, without releasing Lay Shaft
  • If required Isolation switch to be kept in RUN to allow LCC to increase the engine RPM automatically before releasing lay shaft

Signals

Inner Distant
Ø   This is provided in sections where speed of run through trains        
           is 110 kmph and above and where braking distance required
          for Goods trains is more than 1 km for more guidance of LPs.
Ø   The normal aspect of Distant is Attention. It has only
 two aspects Attention & Proceed.
Ø  The distance between F.S.S. and Distant is 2000 mts.
Ø   ID Marker is provided & normal aspect is Caution.
Ø  Signal warning board is dispensed with.
Note: Under approved Special Instructions a color light    
Distant Signal may be combined with G.S.S. or L.S.S. of

 station in rear.

AC RC for LP nomination


Cold Engine Cranking Procedure


  • Secure Loco with Skids / wooden wedges and apply handbrake tightly.
  • Drain Moisture completely from MR1, MR2 & its J Filters & close drain cocks.
  • Ensure all BP & FP Angle COCs in closed position.
  • Ensure both end MR Eq. & BC Eq. COCs closed.
  • Check Under truck Safety fittings.
  • Check Fuel availability as per train working.
  • Check Repair Book for Shutdown Reason, Time & date (If more than 48 hrs. contact PRC / Shed)
  • Check all Safety items
  • Check Lube, Governor, Compressor Oil & Water Level condition
  • Check safety devices OSTA, LLOB, EPD (LWPD & CCPD buttons) & EPD Test COC in open position)
  • Check free movement of Lay-shaft
  • In working C/S, keep A9 in Run, SA9 in Full application & LT switch in Lead
  • In non working C/S, keep A9 in FS, SA9 in Release & LT switch in Trail
  • Ensure EFCO not pressed, Isolation switch in Isolate, MUSD Run button pressed in.
  • Ensure starting fuse intact and close BS
  • Switch ON black, white and yellow breakers (Computer Breaker last) except MAB
  • Switch ON Cont / FP slider switch
  • Select Main menu – Data meters – Starting system
  • Keep EST in Prime position (FPR picks up, FPM starts) till Fuel return sight glass is filled with fuel without bubbles (Approx. 30 seconds)
  • Keep EST in Start position –STA & ST picks up & engine cranks
  • Press lay Shaft for 1 cm if EST is in accessories room / cold start
  • Release EST after Engine RPM raises 140 (200 for Medha)
  • Engine cranking should complete within 20 seconds
  • If not firing / holding, Re-crank after 2 minutes cooling of Starting motors
  • Keep Isolation switch in Run only after 5 minutes
  • Switch On MAB after MR pressure builds up

Gate-cum-Distant


Ø  It is combined with a Gate Stop Signal when a gate is provided between Distant and Home signal.
Ø  Normal aspect is Danger.
Ø  `P` Marker shall not be provided.
Ø  `G` Marker shall be provided as per rules for G.S.S.
Ø  As long as gate is not closed, it works as a G.S.S.
After the gate is closed, it works as Distant signal also. It shall not be taken ‘OFF’ until the level crossing gates are closed and locked for the passage of the trains

Troubleshooting instructions in Fuel oil system


If oil is not visible in return sight glass
Check FPR status in DID. If showing OFF check coil wire connection
Energised condition of relay is indicated by Red & de energised condition is indicated by green
Contact shed for using bypass switch/wedging

If FPR is picked up but FPM is not working, use standby FPM / Inverter
In some Locos, standby FPM with Changeover switch may be provided in Accessories Room
In some Locos, standby Inverter may be provided with changeover switch in Accessories room
Procedure to run standby FPM
Switch OFF Fuel Pump Breaker
Operate changeover Switch
Change Fuel pipeline COCs position
Switch ON Fuel Pump Breaker
Procedure to run FPM with standby inverter
Switch OFF Fuel Pump Breaker
Operate changeover Switch
Switch ON Fuel Pump Breaker
Note: If FPM is still not working, Contact shed

If engine not firing due to air lock in fuel oil system
Air lock is indicated by bubbles in Fuel return sight glass
To release it, open Air lock releasing cock slightly (provided above Primary filter)
Take care to avoid high pressure fuel spillover while opening

If engine not firing due to water contamination in fuel oil system
Water mixing is indicated by white colour of fuel in return sight glass
To release it, open fuel oil system water drain cock below lube oil filter
Close it after pure oil is filled in return sight glass

Fuel oil primary filter Chocked
It is indicated by fuel oil filter condition gauge
Green – Filter is Good condition
Yellow – Filter is getting choked
Red – Filter needs to be changed
Inform shed if indicating yellow / Red and also make remarks in Repair book

Fuel oil secondary (spin on) filter Chocked
It is indicated by fuel oil filled in bypass sight glass
Inform shed if choked
If choking is less, Hauling may be affected
If choking is more, Engine may shut down

Fuel Return Sight glass is damaged 
Replace glass with Bypass Sight glass duly ensuring no oil available in that glass. Also ensure proper sealing and tightening.
